PEKIN ~ Stephen J. Harmon, 82, of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of 702 North 4th Street, Pekin, passed away at 5:44 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at his residence. Born May 13, 1925 in Dallas County, Missouri to Stephen N. and Grace (Reed) Harmon, he married Mary Lou Huffman on March 30, 1946 in Girard, Kansas. She died March 10, 1980 in Peoria. He later married Dorothy Southard. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (James) Story of Mapleton; one son, Ronald Stephen (Veneta) Harmon of Orange Park, Florida; ten grandchildren, Alec, Derek, Stephanie, Christopher, Cynthia, Carrie, Curtis, Adam, Amanda, and Zachary; nineteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Thelma Cowan of Snohomish, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Lou and Betty. Stephen retired from Caterpillar, Inc. He was a fifty year member of Empire Lodge 126 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Illinois in Pekin. Stephen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2008at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church 503 North 4th Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
