Born August 3, 1940 in Magnolia to William “Bill” Isaac and Eva Bessy (Hubble) Farling, she married Thomas E. Tyler on July 12, 1958 in Ottawa. He died December 24, 2015 in Normal. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Jenelle Elayne Tyler; two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Farling and Ernest Farling and one sister, Inez Mosley.
Surviving are five sons, Rick Tyler of Clinton, Gary (Dawn) Tyler of Bloomington, Ron (Jonna) Tyler of Peoria, Roger (Rachel) Tyler of Pleasant Plains, and Daniel Tyler of South Pekin; one daughter, Sue Stone of Pekin; 23 grandchildren, Grant (Cassie) Tyler, Gabe Tyler, Holly (Mark) Kennedy, Blake Tyler, Michelle Franzoni, Korbyn Krontz, Draven Krontz, Bentley Tyler, Olivia Tyler, Landen Tyler, Heather Stone, Nathaniel Tyler, Gracie (Brian) Hendricks, Jeremiah Tyler, Steven Tyler, Rebecca Tyler, Lizzie Tyler, Jenelle Elaye Tyler, Tess (Jason) Olson, Faith (Tyler) Billings, Lydia Tyler, Vanessa Tyler, Danielle Tyler and Ian Tyler; 15 great-grandchildren, Jaali Onna Tyler, Tyler Siddles, Kaitlyn Siddles, Quinn Kennedy, Keighley Tyler, Corbin Tyler, Morgan Kennedy, Avery Tyler, Gianna Franzoni, Eli Tyler, Toby Tyler, Reid Tyler, Dolly Tyler and Dean Hendricks and one sister, Mary Sherwood of Marquette Heights.
Ruth was a faithful wife and homemaker to her husband. She lived for her family and loved taking care of them and people in general. Her home was always open to everyone. When her kids were younger, she enjoyed going to all of their sporting events, going to Brock Lake in Mackinaw and to the Pekin Park and pool. She enjoyed camping, gardening, swimming and relaxing in her lawn chair in the sun.
She was a former member of First Assembly of God in Pekin and Open Bible Church in Green Valley, and later Delavan. Ruth was passionate about teaching the word of God, especially when it came to leading children to the Lord. She taught Sunday school and preached for a brief time in Delavan. She attended Community Fellowship Church in South Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Community Fellowship Church in South Pekin. Pastor Paul Oedewaldt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and also from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Green Valley Cemetery. Ruth’s life will continue to be celebrated at a lunch at the church after the graveside ceremony.
