Born January 21, 1949 in Peoria to Marshall and Ella (Walker) Dyer, he married Alice Bodine on February 19, 1970 in Creve Coeur.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years; three daughters, Carol (Chuck) Tannhauser, Christy Dennison and Amber (Terry) Dickson, all of North Pekin; four grandchildren, Jordan (Angel) Huichapa of Pekin, Kaimyn (Paige) Dennison of Peoria, Caleb Dickson of North Pekin and Gage Vercler of Chicago; one great-granddaughter, Xianna Huichapa; one brother, Guy (Rena) Dyer of Arkansas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sandra Matheney and two brothers, twin infant brother, Buddy and Melvin “Sonny” Dyer.
A loving and dedicated husband, dad, grandpa and an amazing artist, Richard loved hunting, fishing, gardening, antiquing and tending to hummingbirds in his backyard.
An avid Harley-Davidson rider, Richard and his wife, Alice, traveled in all 50 states and all the Providence’s in Canada on his bike.
He attended Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur until its closing.
Richard will be arriving in style in a Harley-Davidson motorcycle hearse to begin his celebration of life gathering at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post #169, 660 Radio City Drive in North Pekin. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Harley apparel.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be given to A.B.A.T.E of Illinois, P.O. Box 526, Avon, Illinois 61415 or given to the family for Three Feathers Outreach, a charity near and dear to Richard’s heart.
