Born June 6, 1929 in Tyronza, Arkansas to William Jennings Bryan and Sarah Nona (McLean) Cook, she married Roy Hopper in 1945. He died in 1964. She later married William H. Clayburg on August 5, 1966 in Pekin. He died May 17, 2017 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Marylyn Linton and Neda Schmitz and seven siblings.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Chuck (Cindy) Linton of South Pekin, Chris (Betsy) Schmitz of Pataskala, Ohio and Jaime (Jim) Camelford of Blacklick, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting, cooking, baking and playing cards. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Brother Albert Ables will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
