Born October 8, 1956 in Pekin, she was a daughter of Lester W. and Dolores (Saylor) Haas. Her parents preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Leslie Dee Bouris.
Laurie is survived by her precious Bassett Hounds, Oliver and Hunnie, along with many dear friends.
She was a graduate of Pekin Community High School and also graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture from Southern Illinois University. Laurie shared her love for horticulture and animals and spent the majority of her career with the Peoria Park District at Glen Oak Park, last working as Park Manager. She continued her service at the Hope Chest in Pekin, where she was serving as a board member and president.
Laurie will be remembered as a neighborhood favorite. Hunnie and Oliver would walk her down Washington Street every morning. The children at the bus stops were always waiting for Laurie and her dogs to come by! She truly cared about everyone she came in contact with and will be missed by so many. Her generosity knew no bounds; she supported numerous charities to improve other people’s lives
Her graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
