Julie R McCoy

Born November 14, 1955 in Pekin to Arthur Albert and Elizabeth Mae (Jacob) Schramm, she married Scott E. McCoy on September 23, 1978 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Allison (Kurt) Hutchings of La Cresenta, California; two sons, Josh (Amy) McCoy of Long Grove, Illinois and Jake (Kristin) McCoy of Park Ridge, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Lila Hutchings, Marian Hutchings, Gwendolyn Hutchings, Spencer McCoy, Hunter McCoy, Brooklyn McCoy, Claire McCoy and Benjamin McCoy; one brother, Jim (Joy) Schramm of Pekin and one sister, Mary Schramm of Morton. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Carmen McCoy of Pekin and a sister-in-law, Cathy Key of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A 1973 graduate of Pekin Community High School, Julie was a 1977 graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Julie was immensely proud of her family, leaving behind beautiful memories of staying home to care for and raise her children with her husband in Morton. Julie had a zest for life and could not wait for the next adventure to start. She loved being a stay at home Mom and was deeply involved in all aspects of her children’s lives. She served as room mother, PTA member, concession stand organizer, Sunday school teacher and also donated her time to scouting programs for both girls and boys. There was nothing that she enjoyed more than watching her daughter dance or her boys compete in athletics.

While she and her husband lived in China for 2 years, Julie made that an experience of a life time. She was thrilled to look at a map of Beijing, pick out a spot and go exploring. It was during that time that Julie learned to love travel. So much so that on her return to the States she became a flight attendant to travel a bit more of the world.

She and her husband returned from China to build their lakeside dream home where she could share her love for the water, sun, and flowers with her beloved grandchildren.

She will always be remembered as a sweet and caring person that loved her family deeply.

A private family service will be held with inurnment in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Christian LifePoints, 2125 Veterans Road, Morton, Illinois 61550. Her sister is a resident at Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge.
