Gary L Sciortino

Born August 3, 1948 in Pekin to Frank and Wilma (Davison) Sciortino, he married Kathy D. Chrisman on May 6, 1972 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Gary (Gina) Sciortino, II, Kary (Ryan) Boerger, both of Pekin, Terri (Robert) Frank of Manito, Barry (Jesi) Sciortino of Pekin and Larry (Kenzie Adcock) Sciortino of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Kailee Sciortino, Delaney Sciortino, Payson Sciortino, Kayden Sciortino and Abigail Boerger and two brothers, Brad Sciortino and Frank (Sharon) Sciortino. He also leaves a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Victoria and Alvin Johnson of Pekin.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sandra Schaar and Becky Bolding.

A 1966 graduate of Pekin Community High School, Gary graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Gary was a member of Laborers' Local 231 in Pekin for more than 50 years. He held various positions with the union including Secretary/Treasurer beginning in 1972 and President of the local union from 2007-2011. He also was the Fund Administrator of Laborers' Local 231 Pension, Welfare and Annuity Funds from 1984, until retiring in 2011. Gary then became President of the Laborers' Local 231 Retiree’s Council from 2016 to present.

He was active in the community and was a former member of the Tazewell County Board. He also formerly served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Marigold Festival Executive Committee.

Gary was an avid fisherman and loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of First Congregational Church of South Pekin.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Ken Stewart will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
