She was born in Lincoln on March 3, 1925 to George “Bert” and Bernadine “Bertha” (Myers) Lowman. Elaine was married to Ronald Lakin.
Elaine is survived by her daughters, Cheri (John) Glassey of Winter Garden, Florida, Linda Travis of Pekin, and Penny Dobbs of Saint Peters, Missouri; her grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (Dr. Brad) Glassey-Deese, Brian (Stacy Painter) Travis, Robin Travis, and Megan (Doug) Cook; her great-grandchildren, Ava Deese, Oliver Deese, Baylee Travis, Kaytlin Elliott, Cody Cook, Kyle Cook, and Chase Cook, and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Bernadine Lowman; husband, Ronald Lakin, son-in-law Robert Travis; grandson Jonathan Glassey; and five siblings.
She was active with the First United Methodist Church of Pekin, a charter member of the Elks Emblem Club, active with the Women of the Moose, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Junior Women’s Club while in living in Pekin. When she moved to Fort Myers, Florida she remained active with Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, American Legion and VFW. While in O’Fallon, Missouri she was active with the First St. Charles United Methodist Church.
She loved crocheting, sewing, reading many books and dancing. She loved her family, and especially adored her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Her visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, 1315 Court Street in Pekin, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Pastor James C. McClarey will officiate. Burial will be at the New Union Cemetery in Lincoln, following the funeral service. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
