He was born July 8, 1948 in Peoria to Walter and Dorothy Irene (Castle) Snyder. His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Kira (Gary) Fuson of Bartonville; one son, Jamey (Traci) Snyder of Peoria; four grandchildren; two sisters, Pamela (Jim) Miller of East Peoria and Brenda Snyder of Nashville, Tennessee; three brothers, Ted (Dawn) Snyder of New York, Kip (Michele) Snyder of Pekin and J.W. Snyder of Bloomington; and his step-mother, Shirley Snyder of Florida.
He was a United States Army veteran and completed two tours in Vietnam. He also had served in the United States Navy and with the 182nd Airlift Wing of the Illinois Air National Guard.
Fred had worked for State Farm Insurance in Bloomington as a computer networker.
He was a member of the TDIClub (Volkswagen Turbo Direct Injection Diesel) and enjoyed going to their events throughout the United States. Fred also enjoyed photography, electrical gadgets, bowling, and golfing.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, where military rites will be accorded.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
