She was born July 2, 1939 in Raymondville, Missouri to Claude A. and Viola V. (Vanderbur) LaBee. She was preceded in death by her parents. She also was preceded in death by two brothers; seven sisters; two granddaughters; and one grandson.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Hazlett of Osage Beach, Missouri; two sons, Robert (June) Karnes of Pekin and Mark Karnes of Osage Beach, Missouri; one stepson, Billy Ashby of Pekin; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Marion) LaBee of Elkland, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley (John) Gottstein of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri and Berniece Benassi of Springfield, Missouri.
Flo graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree.
She worked as the housekeeping supervisor for Pekin Hospital for twenty years. She later worked for Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin, retiring in 2007.
A gambling enthusiast, Flo also loved to play bingo. She was a published poet, winning awards for her poetry. She also enjoyed hiking, gardening and spending time outdoors.
A memorial picnic will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Springlake Park in rural Manito. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Antioch Cemetery in Hartshorn, Missouri. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
