Born April 12, 1923 in rural Manito to Carl H. and Mary E. (DeVore) Gathmann, she married Glen Edward Callaway on February 24, 1952 in Forest City. He died February 11, 2007. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Virgil Gathmann.
Surviving are two daughters, Glenda (Doug) Nash and Darla (Randy) Feaster, both of Pekin; three grandchildren, Dara Feaster, Ian (Madison) Feaster and Dylan Feaster, all of Pekin; four great-grandchildren, Kash, Knox, Kove and Kyah and several nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Doris worked in the office of Armour Meat Packing in Peoria for 15 years until the year 1960.
As she raised her children, she was a room mother and Girl Scout leader at Wilson School in Pekin. She had a love for flowers and enjoyed raising African violets. She also enjoyed crocheting.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she was a longtime member of the Esther Circle and formerly served on their Social Concerns committee.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Sean Peters and Pastor Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow the funeral in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito.
