Born February 4, 1925 in Meredosia, IL to Walter and Velma (Wheeler) Swisher,he married Evelyn Ruth “Susie” Reed on September 1, 1951 in Pekin. She died on January 6, 1999 in Pekin.
Don was also preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Jim, Bill, and Leo Swisher; and 2 sisters, Ilene Brown and Della Jeffries.
Surviving are 1 son, Clark Swisher; 2 daughters, Val Swisher and Luann Swisher, all of Elk Grove, California; 1 sister, Marjorie “Margie” Hunter of Bartonville; and 1 brother, Larry Swisher of Topeka.
Don worked for Quaker Oats Company in Pekin for 45 years, retiring as a power plant engineer.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was wounded during his tour in Hawaii.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
He was a member of several organizations: Empire Lodge #126 AF&AM in Pekin, VFW, American Legion, Amvets, Knights of Pythias, and the Marine Corps League.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens, in Pekin.
