Born March 25, 1937 in Pekin to Frank Edwin and Dorothy (Ollinger) Schneider, he married Nancy Lou Boller on September 1, 1956 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin. She died December 16, 2019 in Canton. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet Marie Schneider.
Surviving are two daughters, Roberta “Bobbi” (Bill) Powell of Punta Gorda, Florida and Jodi (Tony) Erickson of Pekin; one son, Dean (Tiffany) Schneider of Pekin; four grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Erickson of Pekin, Anthony (Ashley) Erickson of Tucson, Arizona, Maxwell (Tressa) Schneider of Tremont and Mason (Alissa Heisel) Schneider of Pekin and seven great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Lucas, Hazel, Edison, August, Henry and Chloe.
Don was a union carpenter working out of Carpenters Local 644 for C. Iber & Son for more than 30 years and then for Williams Construction in Peoria until retiring in 1998. He was a retired member of Carpenters Local 237. Don was also a longtime member of Empire Lodge 126, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Pekin.
He loved to hunt, fish and travel, especially to Europe and fishing trips with family to Canada. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making decoys. In recent years, Don enjoyed living on his farm in Kentucky.
His memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The visitation will end with a bagpiper playing Amazing Grace as Don requested. No service is planned.
