Born March 19, 1933 in East Peoria to Wilford and Mary Louise (Sylvester) Douglas, he married Shirley Marie Arthur on July 17, 1953 in Creve Coeur. She died July 11, 2002 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Surviving are one daughter, Debra (Robert) Fornoff of Pekin; three sons, Michael (Rita) Douglas of Peoria, Gregory (Catherine) Douglas of Metamora and Darren (Angela) Douglas of Peoria; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Loren (Jean) Douglas of Minneapolis, MN, Daryle (Barbara) Douglas of Owatonna, MN and Alvin Douglas of Creve Coeur and two sisters, Prudy (Doug) Albrecht of Port Charlotte, FL and Aline (Larry) Lee of Jacksonville, FL.
Donald was a United States Marine Corps. Veteran of the Korean War. He served as a Field Radio Operator and attained the rank of Corporal.
He was a 1964 graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology. He worked as a high school teacher and coach in Michigan. He also worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 12 years as a supervisor. He last worked as a carpenter and contractor, working out of Carpenters Local 183 for more than 30 years. He retired in 1997.
He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.Donald was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur. He formerly served First Baptist as the Sunday School Superintendant. He was a former member of the Wesleyan Church in Creve Coeur.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur. Rev. David Lynn and Rev. Loren Douglas, his brother, will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Burial will be in Olio Cemetery in Eureka, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and the Eureka American Legion Post 466.
