Born September 26, 1944 in Chicago to Harold Robert “Mac” and Anna Marie (Schaefer) McNally, he married Janet K. Bradshaw on October 7, 1984 in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Megan (Adam) Cunningham of Memphis, Tennessee; two grandsons, Jameson Daniel Cunningham and Dominic Thomas Cunningham; one sister, Mary (Bob) Lord of Loganville, Georgia; one brother, John McNally of Niwot, Colorado; two nieces and two nephews. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Viola Bradshaw of Ashland and Scooter, his faithful companion whom he enjoyed his regular walks with.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan was a graduate of Pekin Community High School and recently enjoyed attending his 60th class reunion. He went on to graduate from Monmouth College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1967.
After graduation, he worked and traveled in California for 4 years before returning to Pekin in 1973 to join the family business, Pekin Ready Mix Concrete, which was located where the Kroger store is situated on Broadway. In 1975 the business was sold to R.A. Cullinan to purchase and develop Central Illinois Dock Company, a river terminal located at mile 158 on the Illinois River above the Peoria Lock & Dam. In 1993 he founded Central Illinois Freight Handling. As CEO, Dan kept busy importing semi-finished steel product from the United Kingdom, South America and the Pacific Rim for distribution throughout the U.S. and Canada. Some of his clients included Caterpillar, ADM, British Steel, U.S. Steel, Standard Oil and Akzo Chemical.
Dan enjoyed restoring and collecting cars and motorcycles. He was creative and enjoyed work as a graphic illustrator. He also had an adventuresome spirit and enjoyed travel, especially hiking, backpacking and kayaking around the world. A longtime member of the Herget Bank Board of Directors in Pekin, Dan served on the board from 1993 to 2015 and was a member of numerous committees of the bank including Executive, Trust, Investment and Loan Review.
Dan was a kindhearted, devoted husband and father. He was of the Catholic faith.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services as apparently even in the afterlife, Dan has an aversion to social gatherings. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
