Sue was born on August 23, 1940 to Alton and Gertrude Cox. She grew up in Johns, MS, and attended
Johns School and Puckett High School. She went to the University of Southern Mississippi where she
earned a degree in Business Education, as well as many certifications in Computer Software. Sue was
employed by Ernst & Ernst, the Department of Insurance, and the Department of Education before
starting her teaching and administrative career where she worked for Phillips Junior College, Brandon
Academy, Antonelli College, and Virginia College. Although she held many managerial positions during
her years in education, she always found time to teach classes. Teaching was her first love, and seeing
her students succeed in their various endeavors brought her immense joy. She touched and inspired
many lives during her years as a teacher and still maintained close relationships with many of her past
students and coworkers until the time of her passing.
She was married to the love of her life, Jack, for 59 years. They were the proud parents of daughter,
Debbie, and son, Chad. She was also a loving and proud “Nana” to two grandsons, Grayson and Hayes.
Sue often considered her greatest accomplishment was being a loving and supportive mother and
grandmother. Her family remembers her as truly extraordinary. She was a brilliant woman who was
strong, independent, kind, generous, selfless, and humble. She was the rock of her family and took care
of everyone - not because people always needed her help - but because she genuinely wanted to make
everyone’s life around her easier.
Sue was a faith-filled woman with a true servant’s heart. She consistently gave her time and talents to
help others, and was a dedicated and loving caregiver for many in her family. She was a faithful member
of Park Place Baptist Church. Sue loved fellowship with her church family - especially her Sunday School
class where she developed many lifelong friendships.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, Jack Middleton; daughter Debbie Middleton Nester; son, Chad
Middleton; two grandchildren, Grayson Nester and Hayes Middleton. She is also survived by her aunt,
Ina V. Pace, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Gertrude Cox, and her brother, Lamar Cox.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Park Place Baptist Church, 5701 Hwy 80
East, Pearl, MS.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.baldwinleepearl.com for the Middleton family.
