The summers of 1967-68-69 were some of MY most memorable - - and Ted helped make them so.  Ted worked summers at BSA Camp Kickapoo near Clinton and served as the Scoutmaster of the group of individual kids who came without a leader - or chose to stay an extra week.  Ted made FAMOUS the term "Booger Bear Troop".
He was an inspirational leader with skills far beyond most others in dealing with young people.  His stories were phenomenal - and - - his escapades into "hypnotism" were always SO funny!  

Our summers would never have been the same without him.

Mr. Ammon was a wonderful scout leader at Camp Kickapoo in the 1960s.  He had a positive influence on many of us growing up in Missisippi in what seemed back then as turbulent times.  But looking back on it, people like Mr. Ammon made growing up in MS a pretty good experience.

I was just thinking about Mr. Ammon the other day. I hate that wasn't in the loop about his passing or I would have been there. There was always a song that reminded me of him "The Leader of the Band." he was such an influence in my life and a unique man whom I will never forget. His talent was limitless and his love for music and teaching touched so many lives. May you rest now after a full life of teaching so many minds.

I have great memories of Mr. Ammon leading Troop 124 and the McComb Junior High Band.   Peace Mr. Ammon.

My life was enriched permanently by Ted Ammon. I know that many, many more who played under him at Cleveland High School feel the same way. Ted's gone yet his legacy lives on. R.I.P.

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Ammon's passing.  I pray peace and comfort for his family.

Some of my fondest memories in life are of Mr. Ammon grooming Us, Pearl Jr High band members to become award winning champions.  I also have very fond memories of those summer band camps. What awesome memories!

I had some of the most influential times in my life with Mr. Ammon:  Jr. High Band Camps, he inspired my love of all kinds of music (and to major in Music) and his wild and crazy humor.  So along “Fearless Leader”

Ted was the beloved Provisional Troop Scoutmaster at Camp Kickapoo near Clinton, MS for many summers where I was one of his Scouts and served on staff with him.  Then in McComb we were Scoutmasters together, and he took the troop to Kickapoo for many more summers even after he moved to Pearl.  Ted will be fondly remembered by many former Boy Scouts.

As a gawky skinny preteen, Mr. Ammon made me feel valuable and that I was capable of doing anything that I put 100% of myself into.  I would have hung from the rafters to please him and do my best.  He was an amazingly gifted teacher who truly loved his students and invested in them.  God richly blessed those of us who sat under his direction.  So very sad to hear of his passing.  My prayers are with his family.

Thanks for all your hard work with us crazy teenagers!  I loved junior high band!  You will be missed Mr. Ammon!!

Mr. Ammon was a great influence in my life as a beginning musician.  He opened the door for me to the world of music, and instilled in me a work ethic that demanded nothing less than 100% of myself....100% of the time.   I'll cherish those memories forever!    He is greatly missed.

mr. ammon lived across the street from me although i was not in the band i was always welcomed over. the time he took up with me will truly be some of my greatest memories. i thank him for that my prayers go out to jay.

Did my practice teaching with Ted while at Delta State and thoroughly enjoyed it.  He was a tough taskmaster but it was worth it.  There was nwver a dull moment!

He helped instill the love of music in so many young hearts. With his seriousness, sternness and sometimes silliness, he taught a lot of us about perseverance and dedication and to never accept less than 100% of ourselves in what we do. You will be greatly missed Mr. Ammon!

He was a major force in teaching us how to appreciate all kinds of music. His wonderful spirit of fun, teaching and enjoying his students made him a popular person to all students. He made a big difference in many, many students lives. Thanks Mr. Ammon

Mr. Ammon was my predecessor at Pearl J.H.  Since he retired from teaching in 1990 until this very day, there are teaching methods he developed still in use by the band staff.  It is a privelage to have know him both as a friend and colleague. Wishing his family the very best.

My prayers are with your family. Mr. Ammon will surely be missed.

He influenced many young people's lives in a positive way. Too sad there are not teachers of his quality in the schools today.

Sorry--in my haste to post last night, I left out a word: the song Mr. Ammon taught us at Camp Kickapoo is "Just plant a watermelon seed upon my grave and let the juice run through."

I will never forget the day he told us that if he found the insides of our clarinet dirty, he would clean it out with a piece of bread and make us eat it!  That was a great incentive for keeping our instruments clean.  He was indeed the best.

So sorry to hear this. Truly an amazing man. Loved going to Camp Beaver in the summers and hearing the ghost stories!

Mr.Ammon was one of a kind. He always made me laugh. He will be missed but Im sure heaven sounds a little bit louder today, Im sure hes playing his music with a smile on his face :)

Mr. Ammon was one of my favorite teachers while at Pearl Junior High. My condolences to all his family and friends.

Mr. Ammon was a great family friend that will be missed.  His loyalty was unmatched.

He was our band director in Cleveland and led us to triple Superior at Sate.  He was a great band director and provided many hours of fun with his group hypnotism.  Most of us faked it, but it was very memorable.  We wish his family the best.

My thoughts are with his family. He was a Band Director here in Belzoni years ago, but he was a friend of mine from the late forties when I lived in Ferriday. May he rest in the Peace of the Lord.

I always wanted to do my best for Mr. Ammon.  I will never forget his dedication and those baby blue eyes that would look over the top of his glasses to let you know either that you had played it better than ever before or that you needed to listen a little better to correct the flat pitch.  He was a great band director....pretty sure they don't make them like him anymore.  Very sad to hear of his passing.
