Peggy was born January 26, 1943, in Mize, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Roy McAlpin and Juanita Kersh McAlpin.
Peggy retired from Allstate Insurance after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Her hobbies included cross stitch, scrapbooking, and caring for her pets, but her favorite times were any spent with her precious grandchildren.
Perhaps Peggy will best be remembered for her pure and loving heart. Always the caregiver, Peggy’s home was the gathering spot for her sons’ friends. Her natural inclination was to take care of and provide for those in need, just as she did for her husbands during their years of illness and declining health. Never one to pass judgement, Peggy’s tender, compassionate tendencies drew others in, and she became a trusted friend to many throughout her life.
As her own health declined Peggy’s resolve to fight the battle never waivered. Peggy loved life and all that it encompassed, and she lived her life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Dudley Johns, and George Alton Rhodes; and grandson, Harrison Hawk.
She is survived by her sons, Roy Johns, and James Johns; step-children, Kristi Hawk and husband Damon, and Greg Rhodes and wife Ashley; brother, Roy McAlpin; sister, Sheila Thornton; and grandchildren, James Lee Johns, Jackson Johns, Hayden Hawk, Audrey Hawk, Hudson Hawk, Arin Hawk, Grey Rhodes, Lawton Rhodes, Jack Rhodes, and Mary Helen Rhodes.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 21, 2020, at Lakeshore Baptist Church Cemetery in Florence.
