Jean was born January 7, 1935, in Dossville, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Silas Elmer Atkison and Vera Francis Sosebee Atkison.
Jean’s life was one filled with love- love for Christ, her family, friends and animals. Throughout her life she shared love and she taught love, and what an amazing gift to manifest in the lives of others.
Jean’s love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was central and foremost in all that she did. She was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and her church family.
Her love for her family and friends was never more evident that when she was sharing. Every meal cooked, every trip to WalMart, in every way that she could Jean did or provided something for someone else.
A true animal lover Jean cherished her canine companions and other animals throughout her lifetime. Her family will always remember the baby squirrel she rescued and raised, as it tamely learned to eat from her gentle hand.
Jean’s greatest legacy will be the lessons of love she imparted in those she knew and shared her life with.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, James E. Witt; second husband, James “Buddy” Hocutt; son, James “Jim” Witt; granddaughter, Melinda Thompson; and all of her siblings.
Survivors include son, Michael Witt (Okyul); daughters, Terri Hazlewood, Debbie Wantland, and Pam Mosley (David); 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.baldwinleepearl.com for the Hocutt family.
