His funeral will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11:30am in the Baldwin-Lee Chapel with burial at Lakewood South Memorial Park on McCluer Road in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a member of Florence First Baptist Church.
Johnny was born on January 25, 1944 to Coy E and Maybelle Speights. He lived most of his life in Jackson, before moving to Florence. He was a welder and fabricator, and retired from Irby Construction Company. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy when he retired was being able to spend more time with his family. He was the type of person who would do anything to help someone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved gardening and could take a dead plant and bring it back to life. He loved to make all kinds of treats at Christmas. He loved his family very much, and is going to be missed so much by everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and several brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife and best friend of 35 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Speights; son, Ronald "Rocky" Speights (Betty); stepson, Bobby Madura (Melissa); stepdaughters, Cindy Godfrey (Mike), Christine Breaux, Debbie McDonald (Don), and Susan Mohon; grandchildren, Hunter Speights, Sid and Will Godfrey, Rebeccah Cooper (Wes), Chaz Breaux (Mary Riley), Blake Breaux, Hanna and Katy McDonald, Lauren Scott (Barrett), Logan Marshall, and Melissa Bullock (Greg); great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Charlie Cooper, Elizabeth Scott, Brandon, Jackson, and Wesson Bullock; plus several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to his wonderful nurse, Miss Kimberly, for the wonderful care that she gave him these last few months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the First Baptist Florence Building Fund at https://firstflorence.com/giving
