Born December 27, 1925 in Marion, IN to his parents Lena Hollowell Rinehart and Miles E. Rinehart. Don passed away August 22, 2021 at the age of 95.
He and his wife Phyllis Charles both graduated from Marion High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy, was assigned to D. E. Sutton Destroyer Escort 771 for Sub Patrol in the North Atlantic. At the close of the War he attended Marion College in an Engineer Course and transferred to Purdue University Forestry School where he graduated in 1951. He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad as a Forestry Agent to promote good forestry practices in Southern Mississippi from 1951 to 1970. He married Phyllis in 1953 and they lived in Hattiesburg, MS and were members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Promoted to Manager of Industrial Development, Gulf Region, they moved to Jackson MS where he promoted industrial development in Louisiana and Alabama as well as Mississippi. He made many trips mainly to the Northeast United States to promote Mississippi as a fine place to expand or build new industries in our area. He belonged to the Mississippi Industrial Development Council, Southeast Industrial Council and Louisiana Industrial and Education Association to advance Mississippi as the place to locate.
He is survived by a sister, Cyndy in Indiana, and a brother, James in Arizona.
The funeral will be at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS on Friday, August 27, 2021. Visitation will be there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pearl Presbyterian Church, 2933 Old Brandon Road, Pearl, MS 39208 or to French Camp Academy, same address.
