Ret. SMG. Thomas Melvin Tyree quietly completed his earthly tour of duty at his home in Sharpsburg, GA on Sunday, September 23, 2018. He was born in Norfolk, VA on December 16, 1948 to the late Robert and Addie Tyree. He completed a 30-year distinguished career as an officer in the Army and retired with the rank of Sergeant Major in 1998. Melvin worked tirelessly for others, enjoyed friends and family, and has blessed his family and friends with countless memories. A faithful member of Bouldercrest Church of Christ until his passing, Melvin was truly a willing worker and committed Christian. He was especially devoted to fellow veterans, founding with his wife, the Church’s Veterans Support Team. He was also a member of The Greater Atlanta Buffalo Soldiers, 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association. Melvin is survived by his devoted wife, Donna; his sons, Thomas Tyree, Jr. and Shermaine Tyree and daughter, Terae Tyree Wilson (Jerome) all of Buffalo, NY; daughter, Tyhuna Tyree Nelson (Christopher) of Atlanta; and son, Takuya Tyree (Angeline) of Delaware; four sisters, Jackie Bolden, and Louise Hodge, of Newport News, VA, Claudine Huff of Corpus Christi, TX and Roberta Tyree of Buffalo, NY; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Bouldercrest Church of Christ in Atlanta, GA with full military honors. A visitation will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, October 1, 2018.
