Christopher “Andre” Mercier, aka Chris, Age 55, of Atlanta, GA passed on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was a lover of life, technology family and friends, had a brilliant smile, and never met a stranger.
Chris loved his family. His wife describes him as a caring, giving, patient and loving husband and father. His children describe him as a wise, patient, kind, generous, loving and fun father, but Chris’ second love was his job at Delta Air Lines. As a Regional IT System Engineer for the southeast, Central America and the Caribbean, Chris flew all over the world and was responsible for ensuring that Delta’s operation was always functional and that no single technology issue impacted flights, the Engagement Centers, or airport logistics – a job he took pride in. At Delta, he was recognized by the company in 2018 by receiving the prestigious Chairman’s Club Award where 100 out of over 90,000 employees are selected and celebrated in a lavish ceremony. It was his work and contributions - after Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico - where he set-up a V satellite so that the San Juan airport operations could continue and the team could deploy the first humanitarian flight. With the V satellite in place, the airport was able to restore communication and power, take care of Delta’s customers and resume operations. He set a precedent for all the other airlines. He also single handedly improved the lives of so many with his tech savvy efficiencies and visionary ideas. The San Juan team was forever grateful to Chris for his selfless determination to make sure the operation continued and flying in supplies for those in need.
