Mr. Alan Worth Trammell, age 86, of Peachtree City, GA passed away peacefully at his home Friday, January 2, 2020. He was born on March 7, 1933, in Coral Gables, FL to Bernard and Virginia Trammell. After his mother’s passing, he was raised at an early age by his father and his step mother, Rose Mae. He was a 1956 graduate of The University of Florida. He spent 4 years in the Air Force ROTC while in college and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from 1956 to 1964 flying tactical fighters, including the F-84 and F-89. He earned the rank of Captain, with a total of 10 years of service. After his military service, he became a commercial airline pilot with Eastern Airlines moving to Stone Mountain, GA and eventually settling in Peachtree City, GA. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf, target shooting, traveling the world with his wife, cheering on his beloved Florida Gators, studying and writing volumes about his ancestry as well as becoming a valuable member of Trammell Equipment Co., supporting his brother Bud and the sales force by creating computer AutoCad drawings for large construction projects. He was a volunteer at The Bridge Community Center, sponsored by First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. Upon his retirement, he had flown over 20,000 military & commercial flying hours. Airplanes that he has flown include PA18, T6 Texan, T33, F84 Thunderjet, F89 Scorpion, Lockheed Constellation, Lockheed Electra, Douglas DC9, Boeing 727, Boeing 757.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard & Virginia, his step-mother of many years, Rose Mae, uncle Cliff Trammell and uncle Charles McGlothlin, daughter-in-law Della Ross Trammell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Mulwee Trammell, formerly of Charlotte, NC; sons , Mark (Sallie) of Woodstock GA; Patrick of Alpharetta GA; and Scott of Newnan GA; daughter, Amy (Mike) Garrison of Evans GA; five grandchildren, Wesley Trammell, Isabel Trammell, Nicholas Trammell, Maclaine (Austen) Meredith, and Mallory Garrison. He is also survived by brother, Bernard Jr. “Bud” (Jane) Trammell of Birmingham, AL, niece; Kristin (Stephen) Lindsey and nephew; Bernard “Buddy” (Catherine) Trammell.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City GA. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Westminster Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mark Matson officiating. All friends and family will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
Reception will be held at First Baptist Church following the service.
