This is a little late but wanted to pass on my condolences to the Miller family. My heart and prayers are with you as you navigate this difficult time.
I worked on Steve's team and was impressed with the way he was genuinely interested in helping, advising, or resolving issues. Steve, I realize, was a private person but I enjoyed my conversations with him.
Although he is not here with us in body, his memory lives on and I am grateful I had the opportunity to know Steve.
I know your hearts are still heavy but I pray that you will find peace in knowing Steve was a wonderful person.

It was so beautiful to read all the comments written about Steve in his adult years..but, I can assure you those character qualities started well before that! I graduated with Steve and had the privilege of knowing him as he was coming into those adult years..you have each described the Steve I remember as a teenager..he was the best..kind, patient, gentle and seriously SO funny! His wit was unmatched…it was a challenge to sit next to him in class and not come unglued with laughter at his facial expressions and verbal responses….I have thought of him many, many times since HS…my heart aches for his family losing him..I hate I found out about his passing so late..I am praying for peace and comfort…

I remember when I started working in the company with Steve, he was always there to help me out. It could be in the evening, at noon, at night you name it and he was always there because that was just Steve. He was always a nice and caring guy. He helped me out countless times in my career. I still utilize the things Steve taught me in my work till this day! Besides work, I remember him and I would have long conversations about sports. It would just always be a good time with him. Steve is irreplaceable. The level of knowledge he had with his job was phenomenal and the level of caring he had towards others was outstanding. I am going to miss you man. I want to say thank you for all the times you helped me out. You would be driving home and still pick up my calls and help over the phone. You obviously didn't have to do that but you did anyways because you cared. I also want to thank you for keeping up with my boring topics sometimes with you. You and your family will always stay in my prayers. Thank you again Steve.

Steve was a winner, always serving at the highest caliber.  He lifted others up in the way he treated them, never condescending or becoming irritable with their requests or complaints.  If he didn't know the answer, he walked others to it directly, he didn't just point the way.

Steve was very planful.  He had spares of everything.  In the office, he had power cables, adapters, accessories, and he knew where they all were at any given moment.  At home, he had a backup TV and microwave.  Steve prioritized what he thought mattered most, being in service to others and minimizing his negative impact on the world.

He never wanted to burden others with his problems.  Steve went for years with mold in his apartment and no working heat but claimed he didn't want to bother his landlord because he didn't want his rent to go up.  His motorcycle was stolen and he let it go, reasoning that the thieves needed it more than he did and it was no longer serving its purpose.  During the winter one year, he went outside in his customary polo (didn't own a coat), slipped and fell down his back steps, went to the doctor, then came to work to deliver the laptop he protected from the fall.  He told no one what happened until the green and purple bruising gave it away.

If everyone was a bit more like Steve, this world would want for nothing.  It was an honor to serve you and serve with you Steve.  To his family, you raised a great man and I know he loved you and God.  Of all the great work he did, he's doing his best work now!

Steve was an amazing teammate. He cared deeply and that showed in the level of service that he provided to everyone. We miss him immensely.

I worked with Steve for 15 years at DSW, he was always willing to help.  If anyone had a computer issue it was always call Steve Miller.  I contacted him multiple times through the years.  He was a great guy and will be missed.

I worked with Steven at DSW and hired him into the PC Support team. Steven was a great young man and I am sorry for your loss. We had many good times together. He was a great worker, a good friend and a pleasure to be around. I know he will be missed by many personally and professionally.

Kind, reliable, generous, intelligent - these are a few words that immediately come to mind when thinking about Steve. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was an invaluable source of knowledge & support to those around him. In seeing other messages from colleagues and friends, it is no surprise how much he was adored by all who knew him.

His kind and generous spirit will be remembered. We know he was a true blessing to your family (and the Designer Brands family) and his legacy will remain in our hearts.

I’ve loved reading and talking about what everyone’s key Steve sign off or flag for help phrase was- mine was, “got 20 seconds?”

The logic here was obviously that I would woo Steve into thinking that whatever he was working on right this minute could be set aside because my issue was going to take, you know, only 20 seconds. Pretty sure that it only took that first time for him to realize that whatever I’d broken was for sure going to take more than 20 seconds to fix. But it didn’t matter. He always showed up. Was always there. 

I was at the office this week and felt his absence. It just feels like a different place.  

Miller family, Steve was a gift. Thank you for sharing him with us.  My condolences to all of his family and friends.

My prayers of strength and comfort are with you in this time of loss.  I worked with Steve for many years at DBI.  He was a pleasure to work with, and he will be truly missed.



Steve, I will miss having conversations discussing the packers, Grandview  neighborhood changes and what your upcoming weekend plans. You will be missed. 

Steve was one of the most giving and kind people to work with during his many years at Designer Brands. Always available at a moments notice, Steve would give his time, expertise, and knowledge to anyone who needed him. We are so very sad about Steve’s sudden passing and he will be greatly missed. His legacy of a kind and giving heart will live on.

I am so sad that Steve is gone.  When I joined DSW 9 years ago, Steve was probably the first person to give me his cell phone number.  I thought that I was super special that I always had Steve on speed dial until I realized that many people considered Steve their personal technology savior.  My last message to him was on May 19th, and I ended it the way I usually did, "THANKS, THAT WORKED!"  

What a perfect gentleman, kind, so patient, and made everyone feel like a VIP.

Steve was one of a kind. Always willing to help anyone, going above and beyond. I still giggle though thinking about the pod we shared at DSW. He would be on the other side of the cube wall, but would sit so low in his chair, reclining as far back as he could go, so as not to be seen. He wasn't hiding necessarily... He was always in demand, so I never blamed him for just trying to get his own work done. 😂
To his family, thank you for sharing Steve with us. I'll be praying for your peace through the days to come.

Steve was a real gem! I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a positive, kind, patient and knowledgeable person. Steve was always willing to help no matter the issue or the time of day/night. Steve had a way of making everyone feel important, quickly addressing our issues regardless of position or title. He also had a great sense of humor, every encounter ended with a good laugh or a smile.

Several years ago, my laptop crashed and I was convinced that all had been lost. Completely distraught and on the brink of tears...I called Steve for help. Instead of just providing me with a new laptop, Steve worked a miracle and in two days my laptop was restored without a single file missing! From that day forward Steve has held a special place in my heart.        

My sincerest condolences to Steve's family and friends, he will be greatly missed.    


There is probably only one phrase I have said more than any during my years here at DSW, "Steve Miller can help you".  He always did and always with a smile.  He will be truly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve for many years, and in all that time I never came across anyone I had more faith in than Steve.  Always kind and polite, despite working twice as hard as anyone else.  I will miss him.

Steve, you were the guy that everyone went to with any computer problems because we all knew you'd help and take care of us.  You never once complained or were bothered by our thousand of questions.  You were there will a smile on your face.

You will always be part of my 12 years of memories with DSW.  I'm so sorry you are gone - way too soon.

We will always remember the times we had had with the crew. Many late nights of Mexican Train and it always seemed to include with Steve making a Burger King run for their chicken sandwich. That young man could eat.
So many great memories includes Steve. Soccer, camp outs, and just hanging out. 
We miss those times. 

I’m completely saddened to hear of the passing of Steven. He was always the most friendly and helpful person at Dsw! I always enjoyed running into Steven in the hallways and was so excited when we got to work on projects together.
He will be greatly missed.

Most of my messages to Steve included phrases like “Please don’t roll your eyes at me but …” “I know I’m being a diva but …” “Now what do I do!?” But they always ended with “Thank you for always being so helpful!” 

Steve was an amazing partner and one that will be greatly missed. He had such a kind soul and never blinked an eye when someone needed help. My deepest condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear this news!  Steve was a great help to me during my time at DSW with any IT laptop needs!  Never a question too small or silly for him to help!  I’m sure he will be missed there!  

So sad to hear this. I worked with Steve for 10 years at DSW. He used to babysit my dog for me when I was away! Great young man.

This is Christine (Lorenz) Dennis, and my heart is breaking over what you must be going through!   Matthew called me from FL to tell me about Steve, and after experiencing the shock of hearing about the tragedy, my thoughts raced right to you, as his parents.  While the words “I am so sorry for your loss” do not seem like enough of what I want to say, please know that they are true.  I surely cannot imagine all that you must be going through, but as another parent, I can assure you that I care.
While I don’t know what I can do to help, if you can think of anything, even if just giving a listening ear, please know that I am open!

Steve- you were one of my most favorite people to have on speed dial.  You helped me with more things than I care to think about and truly had all the answers. I'm grateful that you never laughed at my boneheaded questions and that you never said, "Did you try unplugging it first?"

I told every single new associate about you and said, "Steve Miller is one to know" and I believed that whole-heartedly. You kept us up and running and I've watched you walk hundreds of miles through 810 and 4150- usually carrying equipment- on your way to save someone from themselves. 

Thank you for your kindness throughout our time working together. Your laugh and your friendship are greatly missed.
