Weldon Lester Williams, 91, was a lifelong Texan, born on September 2, 1932 to his parents, Lester & Juanita Williams, in Northwest Texas. A small town of Vealmoor Texas, Howard County. He passed away in Pasadena, in the early morning of Sunday, October 22, 2023.
He was married to Peggie Jo Taylor for nearly 72 years, on January 21, 1952, in Kosse Texas. Living in Kosse, he was a cotton farmer alongside his father. In the off season, Weldon would go to Kansas and work in the oil fields with his father-in-law. He had many tales of that time in his life. He and Peggie started a family there in Kosse but with the growing family they moved to Pasadena in 1956. He found a job in the big city with Phillips Petroleum and quickly got laid off thereafter. He found temporary employment at Continental Can company. He then started his career as a chemical operator, retiring after 31 years with Rohm and Haas. Weldon was always a hard worker instilling those traits in his children with his daily wisdom. Such as “We aren’t air conditioning all of Harris County” when the doors were left open or “We aren’t feeding the light company” when the lights were left on or “Do you think money grows on trees”
Weldon’s biggest pride and joy was his family. Of course, grandchildren are even better than children. He had a special relationship with each one. He and Peggie, always the biggest fans, tried never to miss a sport or school event the grandkids had. He enjoyed family gatherings with family and large extended family. After retirement, he and Peggie enjoyed traveling to Branson and around the Ozarks, on many occasions these trips included all the brother and sister-in-laws. They loved to visit antique stores and traveling the back roads across the states. He was a great story teller and he could talk at great lengths reminiscing and remembering olden days. Weldon was passionate about HIS backyard. He took GREAT pride in his flowers and plants and vegetable garden. It was often lengthy conversations with him naming each and every plant. He would spend hours most days just sitting out back, watering and tending to his plants.
Weldon is survived by his wife Peggie Jo, who he never called her by that name, affectionately only Mama. They created a legacy with their 4 children, Karen (Jimmy) Davis of Deer Park, Tx; Randy (Lynda) Williams of Iola, Tx; Melinda Skelton of Ft. Worth, Tx; Rhonda (Jerry) Geddes of La Porte, Tx. 8 Grandchildren Teresa (David) Mays; Nicky (Vicki) Davis; Aimee Mulligan; Justin Skelton; Kristyn (Chad) Carpenter; Taylor Pierce; Kayton (Sabrina) Geddes; Jared (Joy) Williams; 21 Great-grandchildren; and 2 Great-great grandchildren.
He also is survived by Sister Wynell Phelps of Pasadena, Tx and Brother Darrell (Kitty) of Houston, Tx, and many nieces and nephews. Weldon was predeceased by his parents Lester and Juanita and his Brother Eudean Williams.
Pallbearers are his Grandsons, Nicky Davis, Justin Skelton, Kayton Geddes, Jared Williams, Grayson Mulligan and David Mays
The love Weldon had for his family was undeniable. In remembrance of him the family asks that perhaps you may wish to donate to the local Children’s Cancer Organization, Snowdrop Foundation, to help those children fighting this awful disease. Specify Dad’s name in the “Donating In Memory of” box.
