Vernon joined the military at 18years old and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 17 years. He then went on to work for Exxon-Mobil for 27 years before his retirement in 2005.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Linda Winkelman and his daughter, Barbara Winkelman.
Vernon is survived by his daughters, Jean Winkelman and Bridget Franciski; son, David Winkelman; his grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Savannah, Christopher and Benjamin; his great grandchildren, Michael Eli, Angel and Dyane; brothers, Mark and Leroy; sisters Diane and Jean; plus numerous other relatives.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Grand View Funeral home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 2:00pm also at Grand View Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park/Bethany.
