Sue entered eternal life on Friday, February 5th, at the early age of 96. She left this life peacefully at Serenity Gardens in Dickinson, Texas, where she spent her last two months receiving Serenity’s excellent care in spite the COVID chaos. Sue was admitted recovering the urgent surgery following a serious fall she suffered at her Pearland home past Labor Day. Reports and photos from the Serenity Staff confirm she was content and comfortable during her stay. The staff shared their personal feelings for her, some playful moments, how they enjoyed having Sue there and wished for more time. Serenity Gardens being a small facility of 16 beds, caregivers had opportunities to provide the personal attention Sue needed. She kept the facility hooten’ n hollerin’ with her playful sense of humor. We all know Sue never met a stranger and could have anybody's entire life story in a 30-minute conversation. We discovered a few years back she had detailed information from wrong number callers... Amazing!
Those that know Sue will remember her as the feisty, sassy, determined (some say hard-headed), great cook, a loving Mom and Grandmother. Sue and Tommy raised five wonderful and successful Children in the Golden Acres area and attended Golden Acres Baptist Church for many years. Following the loss of Tommy, Sue returned to Kentucky to reside in Eddyville for many years. In 2007 at her young age of 83, Sue made the choice to pack up, return to Texas, and start over in a new residency in Pearland at BellaVita. A beautiful active adult community and joined the Shady Crest Baptist Church. Naturally as we well know; the fantastic vegetable garden was the main priority after settling into her new place. She loved her garden and took considerable pride when crops bared the delicious vegetables. Much of the time, the table and/or counter tops would be blanketed with beautiful veggies picked from her garden. She tended to the garden primarily herself, the boys helped, if any work required muscles. We guess the “garden of life” kept her eating healthy and going for many years. Her family... the other love and all her children, their children, and their children’s children... those adorable great grandkids! A simple mention of a kid’s name (and there is a busload of kids) would put a sparkle in her big blue-eyes. Oh, and did I mention, she knew the birthday of every kid. Sue was best as a caregiver to her family. She assisted in the up bringing of several grandkids and great grandkids, such as... Memaw’s weekend boot camp for potty training and weaning a pacifier... our oldest granddaughter refused the pacifier after being in the care of Great-Grandmas while we cruised four-days... the baby was three months old and tossed it. Memaw kept two wood paddles, ping-pong shaped, with names printed in red of two grandkids... (nondisclosure, you will have to guess). Momma-Too showed no favorites when it came to her DILs and SILs, each were as special and loved as if we belonged to her and we loved her just the same. She shared her secrets and tips for cooking, gardening, budgeting, coupon clipping and reuse everything (and that means everything, she recycled before it was popular). Sue called it economizing.
On May 10, 1924, Sue Kathlyn Neal was born in Scottsville, Kentucky to parents, Marvin“Daddy”Neal and Lola Divine “Mammy”Neal and was the baby of six children. Sue preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husbands’ Thomas Chandler Sanders and Dale Taylor and her oldest Son, Marvin Thomas Sanders. Sue is survived by four children and their spouses: Deborah and Dr. Doug Martin, Gary and Deborah Sanders, Mike and Sue Sanders, Craig and Barbie Sanders, 11 grandchildren: Katie Bloomfield, Amanda Stuckey, Ange Hope, Brock Sanders, Kristin Marsh, Ian Sanders, Shane Sanders, Jason Sanders, Amy Sanders, Lauren Bennett and Heather Thornton, including their spouses, 21 great grandchildren: Ava, Kennedy, Kasey, Mason, Alyssa, Macie, Karlie, Barrett, Kaden, Everett, Cadence, JT, Katelyn, Kelsey, Trey, Noah, Austin, Kyler, Riley, Jared, Jimmy... Yep, she can fill a bus.
We love you Mom and know we will be together again one day... Rest in peace.
