Silvester Rios, Jr., 80, of La Porte, Texas, was born on October 16, 1944, in Asherton, Texas, to the late Cleofas and Sylvester Rios, Sr. He served honorably in the Vietnam war, before going to school at University of Texas at Austin, eventually graduating with a master’s degree in library science. Silvester worked approximately twenty-five years as a librarian for aerospace engineering companies and other libraries before retiring.
Silvester pursued many interests, some of which included gardening, cooking, and genealogy. He was an avid sports fan and could often be found watching a baseball or basketball game on the television, Silvester found comfort in the simple things in life, like staying home. Above all, his greatest pleasure. came from spending time with his precious family. His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Silvester was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Alberto Rios; and his wife Joyce of thirty-nine years. He is survived by his children, Jessica Long and Loretta Fernandez; his grandchildren Savannah Long, Nathan Long, Rosa Elena Fernandez, Lucia Fernandez, Sofia Fernandez, and Natalia Fernandez; his sisters Manuela Bustamante and Maria Bosquez, his brothers Guadalupe Rios, Sr and Juan Ramos; his numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Silvester was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and nephew and will be missed by all.
A visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505, on November 27, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A funeral mass will take place at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 2921 Center St, Deer Park, TX 77536, on November 29, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The committal will be at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, on November 29, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
