Charla Lynn Reynolds, longtime and well-respected resident of the La Porte, TX community, was reunited with the Lord on October 29th, 2018, a beautiful Monday evening. She was married to her best friend and soulmate, Charles Timothy Reynolds for 47 joyous years. Their unconditional love for Christ and one another resonated throughout the community, their church and their lifelong home. Lynn is survived by a large and loving immediate family; Mother Maggie Hughey, sister Diwanna Zapalac and husband Donald, sister Elizabeth Connor, brothers Robert, Randall and Richard Hughey, sister-in-law Kathy Hughey, only son Conrad Reynolds and wife Kathy, grandson Zachery Reynolds and wife Callie, and grandson Easton Reynolds; along with numerous, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is reunited in Heaven with her Father Bobby Hughey, brother Greg Hughey, and Nephew Hayden Hughey.
Lynn was born in West Point, GA on December 7th, 1951. She enjoyed dancing, spending quality time with friends, and even from an early age, planning events for her family and church group. She graduated from Lanette High School with the senior class of 1971, just a year before the birth of her dearest son. Upon graduation, Lynn became a diligent member of the workforce, establishing a work ethic she carried with her for the rest of her life. As she began her career in office sales, Lynn did exactly what she was passionate about, assisting and interacting with others on a daily basis. Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing this amazing woman knows that it was never enough for her to simply be present. She had to be involved, pouring her entire self into every activity she took part in. Lynn was actively involved in the La Porte community, especially where her family was concerned. She was on the board of the La Porte Boys Baseball Association, serving as an active member throughout her son’s time in the city league. She was also a Director of the La Porte Cowgirls Drill Team, where she assisted in every aspect for roughly 4 years. The many years following, Lynn simply didn’t slow down, as if she didn’t know how to! She was the co-leader for her niece’s girl scout group, and La Porte High School Chato Booster Club member when her other niece was active on the squad.
As the years flew by, she continued to envelop herself wherever she could be of service. She was actively involved in her grandson’s football, baseball and theatre activities until he graduated high school. While present, she made a lasting impact on various members of the school, where many of her grandson’s close friends affectionately referred to her as ‘nana’. When she began attending Fairmont Park Church in 2003, her serving spirit only grew stronger over the years. Up until her passing, she selflessly and tirelessly served in her beloved church, where she was well known for her leadership in Celebrate Recovery, preparing delicious meals for the group every Friday night. She never saw this as a chore, rather an opportunity to capitalize on her spiritual gift of servitude, involve herself in her community, and simply be the hands and feet of Jesus. Lynn often prepared and served food for the homeless on the streets of Houston. She never traveled anywhere without her stash of, ‘blessin’ bags full of toiletries, snacks, and a small bible ready to hand to anyone in need.
Lynn would often say she was, “storing up her treasures in heaven”; meaning, earthly riches truly meant nothing to her. Her identity had always been in Jesus, and she maintained that lifestyle for over 60 years. Charla Lynn Reynolds was not only a loving friend to all, but an example of victory, strength and compassion. She was a warrior of Christ who served selflessly, laughed often, prayed fiercely, and loved unconditionally. She will be dearly missed.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fairmont Park Church, 10401 Belfast Road, La Porte, Texas, 77571 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00 p.m.
