Joseph Charles Wilburn aka “Poppy”, son of the late Lowell Cadamus Wilburn and the late Gracie Lou Wilburn, was born on May 1, 1943. He attended the public schools of Baytown, Texas, and graduated Barbers Hill High School, class of 1961.
At an early age, Joe gave his life to the Lord at Mont Belvieu Assembly Of God Church, under the ministry of Rev. James E. Farmer. At the age of 6 he met the love of his life, Lynda Jean Farmer, the pastor’s daughter. Joe always bragged that he even remembered what Lynda wore the first time he ever laid eyes on her.
Joe and Lynda were united in holy matrimony on June 13, 1963. This union was blessed with three children. They proceeded to live out their love story, for the next 56 years, 8 months, and 28 days.
Joe was a Godly man of integrity. He was a wonderful husband, a great Dad, an awesome Poppy, and a good friend. His passions in life were his family, friends, playing guitar, and singing. He loved to laugh and have fun. If you knew him well, you undoubtedly heard one of his corny jokes, at one time or another. Joe owned Baytown Music Center for 30 years, where he was able to form friendships and touch lives in his own special way. He was unforgettable!
While surrounded by his family, Joe went to meet Jesus on March 11, 2020, at the age of 76.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Lynda Jean Wilburn; daughter, Ginger Boyer and husband Danny; son, Kelly Wilburn and wife Angela; son, Troy Wilburn and wife Veronica; grandson, Tyler Boyer and wife Taylor; grandson, Dillon Wilburn; great-grandson and POPPY’S BIGGEST FAN, Benjamin Chase Boyer; sister, Irma Briggs; sister, Miriam Henderson and husband Bob; sister, Barbara Joines and husband Bobby; brother, L. C. Wilburn and wife Floretta; brother, Tommy Wilburn and wife Janet; and multiple nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Joe was beloved and he will be greatly missed. His life will forever be reflected in those he leaves behind.
