Jo Allison Gomer Davis passed away at her home in La Porte, Texas on August 1st, 2022 at the age of 70. She was born on March 15th, 1952 in Baytown, Texas to Joe Gomer and Vivian (Lewis) Gomer. Jo and her beloved sister, Lisa, grew up in Shoreacres and lived in La Porte most of their lives together, working at their father’s pharmacy for their first jobs, attending school, and developing enduring relationships with countless people throughout La Porte and many of the other surrounding areas.
Jo cared deeply for others, enjoying her role as a MiMi to grandson Wyatt Barnett, a mom to her daughter Kristen Davis, and Aunt Jo to Lisa’s 3 children more than anything else in the world. Later in life, she pursued a career that allowed her to make a deep impact and develop many lifelong friendships when working in the Houston Medical Center for over 30 years. She spent several decades working for the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine; most recently, she served as the Fellowship Program Manager and genuinely loved supporting Fellows as they made such an important transition in their own lives.
She is survived by her daughter: Kristen Davis and grandson, Wyatt Barnett, her two nephews and niece: David A. Deatherage, Jay B. Deatherage, and Laney Deatherage. She was also an adoring Great Aunt to Jayson, Bee, and Bear Deatherage. She is also survived by her father, Joseph P. Gomer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Gomer, her younger sister, Lisa C. Gomer, L.H. Gomer (Papaw), Stella Gomer (Mamaw), Don Lewis, and beloved grandparents, Ruby and Hubert Driscal.
The family will be gathering in celebration of her life at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas Saturday, August 13th at 2pm. A private inurnment will follow at a later date for the family at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas. Any memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
We wanted say that Jo may be gone from this place, but she will always be with us going forward. She will hold a special place in each of our hearts & soul. We will all keep her in the memories of her and continue to share our wonderful memories we have of her through the years.
