James Marvin Smith, 79, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Lufkin, Texas with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 1, 1945, in Crowley, Louisiana, to the late Royce and Katherine Milliman Smith. James proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he bravely fought on the frontlines of the Vietnam war.
James graduated from Crowley High School, where he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart Judy Taylor. They soon married and spent the next fifty-eight years together. Together they raised three wonderful children.
James pursued many interests, some of which included fishing, going to the movies, traveling, especially going on cruises. He was somewhat of a foodie; he enjoyed BBQing and sitting around with his family to eat. James was an avid sports enthusiast; he could often be found watching a game on tv. He also loved attending various sporting events his grandchildren were involved in. James’s family was his pride and joy.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his son Todd Smith; and his siblings Debbie LaBlanc, Ricky Smith, and Scooter Smith. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his beloved wife Judy; his children Lori Mitton and husband Sam, and Greg Smith; his grandchildren Ashley Greer and husband Trace, Cameron Mitton, Tyler Smith, Lance Smith, and Lily Smith; his great-granddaughter Taytum Greer; his brother Larry Smith; his numerous nieces and nephews; his fur baby Lacey; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Baptist Church, located at 6901 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena, TX, 77505, on December 17, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Grand View Memorial Park, 8516 Spencer Hwy, Deer Park, TX, 77536, on December 17, 2024, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
