Frieda Delyght Jones, of Alvin passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Frieda was born October 22, 1920, in Lonoke County Arkansas. She was the youngest of eight children, born to John Daniel Shumate and Ada Lee Harris.
Frieda grew up on the family cotton farm in the midst of the Great Depression. In June of 1941, Frieda married the love of her life, Fred Eugene Jones. The couple moved to Texas, settling in the Pasadena area, and raised three children, Ramona, Sherry, and Lynn. Frieda and Fred were married until his passing in August 1975 shortly after their 34th wedding anniversary.
Frieda became a world traveler, visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, among other destinations. She was also an avid bowler, ballroom dancer, and devout member of the Baptist church. However, Frieda’s true pride and joy was her family. She was an active part in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a few great-great-grandchildren.
Frieda is survived by her children, Ramona Harvey of Alvin, Sherry McDaniel of League City, and Lynn Jones of Pearland; grandchildren; Kim, Stacy, Jeremy, Jason, and Alex; great-grandchildren; Justin, Brittany, Emily, Jillian, Jaelyn, Collin, and Mason; great-great-grandchildren; Brooklynn, Peyton, and Breanna. Frieda is deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
