Carmen Rivera Peña, 73, of Pasadena, Texas, went to be with our Heavenly Father on June 18, 2016. She was born to David Rivera and Carmen Tamayo Rivera in Galveston, Texas on July 11, 1942. She married Jose C. Peña, Jr. on June 21, 1964 and they were happily married for 52 years.
Carmen and her twin sister, Ramona, were raised by their Maternal Grandparents, Margarito and Guadalupe Tamayo on the strawberry fields in Genoa, Texas as children and grew up in South Houston, Texas. After raising her children, she accomplished receiving her high school equivalency degree and was also employed by Deer Park Independent School District for 11 years. Her passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as visiting friends and family members, furthermore, spending time with family and friends at Gustavo Ranch in Pennington, Texas.
She and her husband were active members of Guardian Angel Catholic Church before becoming members of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, feeding birds and attending family gatherings. To her children and many others, she was the best cook. Some of her specialties were homemade tortillas, deer nuggets, cherry cheesecake and coconut cream pie. She always opened up her home to everyone and made him or her feel welcome. She was a second mom to many who visited. She was a beautiful soul that enjoyed the simple things in life.
She was survived by her children, Jose Peña, III (Wife Anna Peña), Belinda Peña Lara (Husband Rene Lara), Rene Peña, Irene Peña Weed (Husband Jeremy Weed). Grandchildren, Jose Peña, IV, Jacob Michael Peña (Wife Nicole Peña), Jaclyn Nicole Peña, Jennifer Peña Rodriguez (Husband Stephen Rodriguez), Alexis Nicole Peña, Sebastian Rene Lara, Payton Rene Lara, Lauren Rene Lara, Aidan James Weed, Adrian Avery Weed. Great Grandchildren, Mia Peña Rodriguez, Michael James Garcia, III, Aubrey Lynn Peña, Abraham Peña Rodriguez. Siblings, Ramona Zavala, Guadalupe Camareña, Francis Hernandez, +David Rivera, Jr., +Susan Cantu, Margarito Rivera, Lydia Vega.
Viewing services will be held from 5-9 pm on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 with a rosary being held at 6pm at Grandview Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be held at 10 am, Thursday, June 23, 2016 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church followed by burial services at Grandview Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
