Ashlie Nicole Renner, a cherished and beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend, left this earth unexpectedly at the age of 32 on December 20, 2023. Ashlie was born in Houston, Texas on February 24, 1991 to Rick and Diane Renner. Ashlie grew up in Deer Park, where she attended Deer Park schools until she graduated from Deer Park High School in 2009. Throughout her early years, she participated in gymnastics, soccer, dance, and later competitive dance. After high school graduation, Ashlie went on to pursue her love of science at The University of Houston - Clear Lake, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Physiology in 2013 and a Master’s Degree in Biology in 2016. Upon graduation from UHCL undergraduate school, Ashlie was hired at NASA Johnson Space Center as a Research Assistant while simultaneously taking evening classes for her Master’s Degree. While attending UHCL, Ashlie was awarded the School of Science and Computer Engineering “Outstanding Biology Graduate Student.” She was also awarded the Bronze Award for all the leadership seminars she attended as well as having over 100 hours of volunteer service at The Houston Food Bank and TWRC Wildlife Center with her favorite area being the Baby Bird Program. Ashlie was also deeply committed to education and was a Supplemental Instructor and Biological Science Tutor to fellow students.
In 2017 Ashlie was hired by Baylor College of Medicine as a Research Assistant in Molecular Biology where she was able to put her love of science to use. In March 2020 when COVID made its way into the United States, Ashlie was moved directly into a new state of the art COVID Research Lab. Ashlie loved all things Science. While most people would listen to music on their Spotify, Ashlie would listen to medical research podcasts or the History of medical discoveries.
Ashlie was a committed blood donor. She very much believed in the importance of saving lives by giving blood as often as she physically could, and she encouraged others to do the same. Ashlie’s other dedication in life was helping the lives of homeless animals. From donating to the animal rescues, to helping her mom foster homeless dogs, Ashlie loved them unconditionally. Ashlie was a “Dog Mom” to her beloved rescue dog, Dawson.
Ashlie is preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard E. and JoAnn Renner.
She leaves behind her grieving parents, brother Cody, grandparents Herman and Josephine Kellner, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Ashlie will be celebrated and remembered for her beautiful smile, the joy she brought her family, and her zest to continuously learn about medical science.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home in Deer Park, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 4 at 1:00 pm at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park, Texas.
The world is most certainly dimmer without our Ashlie.
