Alan passed away on November 5th, 2024 at the age of 96. Alan is survived by sons Kim Alan Stephens, Mark Alfred Stephens, daughter Karen Marina Steffensen (nee Stephens), and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alan completed his civil engineering degree at the University of Western Australia, and attended Perth Modern School during his formative school years. Throughout his engineering career Alan leveraged his passion for hydro power, first in Hobart, Tasmania, then in Canada and abroad. Alan was a pioneer in leading the way with an interdisciplinary team approach to environmental impact assessment for major projects and chaired an international review for hydro power in other corners of the globe.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Alan. He loved a quiet evening with family, good food, music, song and laughter, strolls on the seawall along Ambleside beach in West Vancouver and the creative outlet of building the gardens that surrounded the beautiful homes he and Aurora built together over the years. Alan's contemplative and philosophical views of the world empowered numerous deep conversations with his children and grandchildren. Forever ingrained in our hearts and minds are his favourite words-- onwards and upwards...
