The Lord called and Bill willingly answered to go home on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Bill had just completed his last project which had him up on his roof supervising the installation of a roof vent cover he had designed and made himself. He was literally in the arms of his wife and daughter.
Wirt County is where Bill grew up working on his family’s farm. They raised everything from apples to green beans and livestock. He and his siblings worked hard along with their parents.
After graduation from Wirt County High School Bill enlisted to serve his country in the Army. He served three years while learning what would be his lifelong career in communications. Bill was employed by Ma Bell which eventually became AT&T and he happily retired after 32 years.
Married 34 years to his loving wife, Sandra Tanner, Bill and Sandy traveled extensively. They enjoyed camping, fishing in the mountains of West Virginia, and being with friends and family.
Bill loved to fish and enthusiastically looked forward to his annual adventures fishing with his son Steve and his best friend, Emmett Moore in Vermont. Another hobby Bill enjoyed is wood working and he could build or fix anything. He was incredibly gifted in being able to read directions or learn about something new and immediately understand and apply the knowledge.
An active member of his church, Jefferson Baptist Temple, Bill studied and led bible study on most Wednesday evenings and was loved by his church family.
Bill has two sons Andy (Diane, deceased) Tanner, Steve (Janine) Tanner. He has two step children, Larry (Glenna) Munday and Belinda Goldowski. Bill has nine grandchildren, Stephanie Tanner, Lea Tanner, Kristen Tanner, Zachary Powell, Nicholas (Jesse) Munday, Lukas (Mirandy) Munday, Autumn (Wyatt) Yates, Bailey Goldowski, Parker Glodowski (girlfriend-Hailey Shearon), and seven great-grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his mom Agnes Wigal (Ray Wine), and his dad Raymond Tanner, his sisters, Norma Tanner and Nina (Gene) Boch and brother Raymond “Glen” (Beverly) Tanner. An online guestbook for condolences is available at www.sunsetparkersburg.com.
