Robert Ernest (Bob) Smith, of Trinity, FL & Parkersburg, WV passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 21, 1944 in Alliance, OH to Louis and Areline (Kabisch) Smith.
Bob graduated from Follansbee High School, Class of 1962. He also graduated from West Virginia Tech in 1966 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He retired from General Electric, working in multiple locations, after 28 years of service. He was responsible for construction and start-up of a world-class plastics facility in Burkville, AL. He also worked for Allied Signal in Chesterfield, VA for five years. He attended North Parkersburg Baptist Church and The Chapel Church in Trinity, FL. Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated “Chicago Bears” fan and enjoyed watching all sports.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Mary (Skinner) Smith of Trinity, FL & Parkersburg, WV; daughter, Leslie Ann Veatch (Alan) of Baytown, TX, son, Douglas Fairfield Smith (Liana) of Kingsport,TN; brother, Dan Smith (Judy) of Colliers, WV, sister, Madeline McGowan (Chuck) of New Port Richey, FL and brother, Jeff Smith (Suzanne) of Newburgh, IN; step-daughters, Denise Nelson (Jay) and Michelle Clegg (Paul) both of Parkersburg, WV; grandchildren Amanda Deason (Martin), Nicole Collins (Aaron), Bailey Thomason (Jason), Logan Clegg (Alexa) and Whitney Nelson; great-grandchildren, Liv, Joseph, Laklie, Lilly, Isabelle, and Grayson; step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Cyerra, Reid, Brock, Jenna, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also, his loving companion, “Bear”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A great big “Thank You” to Dr. David Wenk & Patty, Florida Cancer Center, and Dr. Kelli Cawley & Amy, Marietta Memorial Cancer Center for seeing Bob through this disease. He was diagnosed in 2021 with Advanced Systemic Mastocytosis (ASM) and Chronic Myelomoncytic Leukemia (CMML).

Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Thursday April 11, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
