John Ronald Sleeth, 63, of Washington, WV, passed away unexpectedly of lung cancer, Sunday, September 30, 2018, in Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1955, in Fairmont, a son of the late Ronald and Rose (Christie) Sleeth. He was a 1973 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School.
John was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Parkersburg, as an EMT and later Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic. He was recognized by St. Joseph’s Hospital by receiving the Spirit Award they would present to deserving employees. John was noted to be a skillful paramedic and mentor to others entering the profession. Prior to being hired in Parkersburg, John was a member of the Marion County Rescue Squad. He was also a volunteer fireman and had been a member of the Winfield Volunteer Fire Dept. in Marion County as well as the Vienna and Lubeck Volunteer Fire Depts. John loved Scouting and achieved the Order of the Arrow and completed his Eagle Scout project. He served as Scout Master of Pack 16 in Lubeck. John loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours in the woods or by a stream when he was physically able. John is survived by his former wife and life partner, Sheila Sleeth, with whom he resided. He is also survived by his sons, John Patrick Sleeth of Washington, WV and Capt. Justin Denver Sleeth with the Air Force Reserves in Wichita, KS; grandson Corbin and granddaughter Vivian of Merritt Island, FL; brothers William Sleeth and his partner Debbie Watson of Oak Hall, VA, David Sleeth and wife Debbie of Middleburg, FL; uncle William Christie of Troy, OH; aunt Jane (John) Riggs of Starke, FL as well as his nieces Amy Dick and Christie Merrifield of Fairmont, Michelle Cappell of Arizona as well as numerous cousins. He will truly be missed by his Chocolate Labs, Monk and Mocha. John was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and loved his family very much. He had a witty personality that made everyone around him laugh. He was loved and will be missed very much. Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
