He was born February 8, 1941, in Zanesville, Ohio, son of adoptive parents Rex C. Thompson and Emma E. Stemm Thompson, biological parents Frederick Elmore and Juanita Stemm Elmore Anguish.
Also known to family as “Junior”, Fred had a love for Bass Fishing and a true passion for golf. He was loved by anyone he ever came in contact with. Fred had a very strong relationship with the lord, and was a member of The One Church in Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Nancy Thompson. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by his 5 sisters, Shirley McCloud, Dorothy Medley, Ellen Wines, Hilda Shepherd and Ada Wells. Left to cherish his memory are his 3 daughters Tina (Larry) Ellison of Parkersburg, Mary Thompson of Vienna and Sheri (Jeff) Leisure of Mechanicsville, VA; 5 grandchildren; Sabrena (Eddie) McKinney, Stacy (Steven) Tichy, Daphne (Jansen) Jeffrey, Gordon (Elizabeth) Ellison, Samantha (Scottie) Godsey; and 9 great-grandchildren; Sadie, Gracie, Ellie, Payson, Lucas, Maddie, Adlee, Jameson “JJ” and Kent, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 11am-1pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with Funeral Services at 1pm officiated by Jeff Edman and JT Douglas. Burial to follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
