Thomas Michael Ruetten, known affectionately as Tom, passed away on July 12, 2024, at his home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, at the age of 76. Born on January 1, 1948, Tom lived a life marked by service, love, and dedication to his family and community.
Tom proudly served in both the Navy and Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major in December 1991. His military career was distinguished and filled with the honor and respect of his fellow servicemen and women. Post-military, Tom continued to embody the values of discipline and dedication in his personal life.
Tom was married to the love of his life, Cyndi, for an incredible 53 years. Their union was a strong pillar of love and support, guiding their family through life's many joys and challenges. Together, they built a life that was rich with love, laughter and unforgettable memories.
He was a devoted father to his son, Eric, and daughter, Emily (Jason) Jorgensen, and a doting papa to his cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Claire Bear. He was also a loving brother to Sharon (Mark) Norlander and Chuck (Janice) Ruetten. His family was his world, and he was known as his grandkids’ biggest cheerleader, always present to encourage and support them in all their endeavors.
Tom was a man of many interests, including being a passionate gardener and a skilled handyman. Tom also enjoyed working on his cars, traveling to new destinations, and fishing, always eager to share these experiences with his loved ones.
Preceding him in death were his beloved son, Eric, and his parents, Tom and Marion. Their memories lived on in Tom’s heart, and he now joins them in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, from 5-7pm, and the funeral service will be on Friday, July 19, at 10am. Both services will take place at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillon, Nebraska. Tom will be laid to rest at Cedar Dale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, a cause close to his heart.

Tom touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his memory will forever be a guiding light in their lives. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
