Lt. Raymond "Ray" Daniel Higgins was born on January 5, 1966 in Omaha , NE and passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2023 in Papillion, NE. He was a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Ray lived his life by always showing everybody how to judge fairly and care deeply.
He Graduated from Papillion-LaVista High School in 1984, became a member of the Papillion Volunteer Fire Department in 1984, graduated in 1986 from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE with an associate degree in electrical engineering, and became a member for the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department in 2015.
Ray's greatest passion in life was to serve others and was sworn into Papillion Police Department in November of 1988 where he served and protected his community until his death. During his 34 years on the police department, he served in the capacity of accident investigation & recreation, fire investigator, member of the Metro Area Task Force, and in 2021 was sworn in as Lieutenant of the Papillion Police Department. He was instrumental in the planning and assuring numerous community events ran seamlessly including the Presidential visit, the Papillion Triathlon and National Patriot Ride, just to name a few. He also ran his own lawn service for over 30 years as well as several off-duty part time security services.
When Ray was not working, which wasn't often, he loved & care deeply for his family. Especially spending spending quality time with his grandson Vincent, who he adored and his faithful four-legged buddy Max. He and wife Gail, of 27 wonderful years, enjoyed traveling, camping and spending special times in Florida. His other loves were watching and attending NASCAR Races and following the NHL Las Vegas Golden Knights.
He was preceded in death by mother-in-law: Madeline Wagner.
Survived by loving wife: Gail. Beloved parents: Richard & Beverly Higgins. Dear sisters: Judi (Steve) Dort, Terri (Jamie) Hasiak. sister-in-law Linda Wagner. brother-in-law: Norm “Bruce”Wagner. children: Jessica Ohren, Daniel Ohren. Cherished grandson Vincent Ohren. niece Brooke (Andres) Fallas Quiros. Faithful four legged co-pilot Max. His family of brothers and sisters inblue and his brothers and sisters in red.
Visitation Monday July 10th, 4:00 - 8:00 pm at St Paul United Methodist Church, Papillion.
Memorial Service Tuesday July 11 that 10:00 am at St Paul United Methodist Church, Papillion. Interment: Cedar Dale Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials suggested to Papillion Chapter First Responders Foundation, Papillion Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. or Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.
