Kathleen (Katie) D. Overholt Peterson passed away at home on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 following a long battle with lung cancer. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 6, 1945-- the same day atomic power ended World War II. What followed was a life of love, happiness and fulfillment. She graduated from Hopkins High School (Class of 63,) then in Sept 1964, married her high school sweetheart Dan Peterson (Class of 62). Her husband entered active USAF duty in 1966 and together they began a great adventure that touched the lives of many. During 25 years as an Air Force spouse, she endured 15 moves, raised two sons and steadfastly kept the home fires burning while Dan’s service often separated them. Not only was she a consummate homemaker, she excelled as an artist, sculptor, poet, and writer. She wrote an award winning weekly column—“Little Things”--for 18 years as a columnist for the Bellevue Leader Newspaper. Her love of writing poetry garnered an award from the National League of Pen Women. She was an artist who loved to delve into a wide variety of media. She found expression of that with the Bellevue Artists’ Association, Twenty Talents Art Gallery, and the Omaha “Hot Shops” Artists Coop. For many years, she uplifted terminally ill patients as a Pastoral Care Counselor. She was a long time member of Bellevue’s St. James Methodist Church and for the past 12 years was a member of Thanksgiving Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clare and Martha Overholt and her son Jesse. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Col Daniel R. Peterson, USAF (Ret), son Matthew (Amy) Peterson, grandchildren Adam, Vivian and Piper; brother Mark (Renee) Overholt-Loustalot; sisters –in-law Darlene (Valdis) Sneberg, Carolyn Peterson Haley, Kathleen (James) Rasmussen, and nieces and nephews.
Her remains were buried at the Omaha National Cemetery on Feb 5th, 2021 but her spirit is in the everlasting arms of her Savior and Lord.
