Born June 28, 1940, Joan Lucas grew up in Swindon Wiltshire, Dorset/Somerset England. Joan is preceded in death by her parents and four sisters. Surviving her is her husband Eugene Byrne of Papillion, NE, son Lewis (Veronica) Byrne of Papillion, NE, Anita (Kevin) Drummond of Columbus, NE, and John (Amber) Byrne of Papillion, NE ; Grandchildren Felicia (Evan) Engelman, Patrick (Britani) Byrne, John Byrne, and Ryan Byrne; Cory (Molly) Drummond, Rachel (Tim) Wanat, Maranda (Justin) Amezcua; Michael Byrne, James Byrne, and David Byrne. Great grandchildren Gabriel, Everly, and Lennox Engelman, Rielynn, Krew, and Barrett Byrne, Della Drummond, and Yesinea Amezcua. Survivors also include her sister Doreen, and brother Jimmy.
At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Eugene E. Byrne. The couple married on March 18, 1961, in Wantage, Berkshire, England. From the marriage, three children were born: Lewis, Anita, and John. During their marriage, Eugene served in the United States Air Force which allowed the family to stay in touch with Joan’s family in England and other countries. Joan’s family traveled and lived in different countries such as England, Turkey, France, Spain, USA, and Germany. Joan was able to converse with other people and cultures in English, Turkish, French, and Spanish. After raising their children Joan and Eugene settled in Papillion as their final home where both enjoyed retirement and their family.
Joan worked many years with H & R Block; at Hy-Vee as a cake decorator and followed by a long work history with Region IV as a Job Coach for the State of Nebraska. Joan made a great impact in helping special needs with training and finding jobs successfully. Joan’s hobbies included gardening, cooking, bowling, sewing, reading, and most of all being an “animal whisperer” to most any animal. Animals could just feel her compassionate heart for them.

A visitation with family for Joan will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N Washington St, Papillion, Nebraska 68046, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
