After spending a few years growing up in New Farm, the Pillay family moved to the then newly developed Phoenix township in 1981. Govindsamy was 9 years old. It is there in Phoenix, that the family grew with the arrival of three brothers and it is still his Mother's place of residence to this day.
The boy Govindsamy schooled at Natest Primary and then Rydalvale Primary. It was in these years that he developed a voratious appetite for reading and art which naturally poised him for early academic excellence.
He completed his education at Rydalpark Secondary in 1990, keen on pursuing a career in Civil Engineering. His plans soon changed, however. Driven by the hunger to make his own living, he left his studies and worked in cinema entertainment, security and finally telecommunications. During this time he had to step in to support his Mother and young brothers after the passing of their Father in 1994.
Shortly after the younger brothers had completed their schooling, Govindsamy left for the United States in 2000.
