He was born October 2, 1953 in Hartsville, SC to Leslie B. Price and Marga M. Price (née Landskron). As an Army “brat”, Gene lived in Hartsville, SC, Hanau, Germany, Augusta, GA, and Stone Mountain, GA. After receiving an MFA from the University of Georgia and a brief career in theatre set and lighting design, Gene joined the US Navy and met his wife, Hilarie M. Price (née Gray) while visiting his sister, Paula, in Chicago. Gene and Hilarie were married six months later in Key West, FL on January 2, 1984.
Gene’s military service as a decorated Naval Flight Officer took his family to a number of duty stations. They served the military faithfully, with deployments to Guam, Texas, Rhode Island, and California before settling in Bellevue, NE for Gene’s retirement from the service in 1998. Gene later worked as a project manager in software development at Air Force Weather.
A dedicated father, Gene raised his two daughters with strong convictions and an unwavering commitment to personal integrity. He took great pride in their personal accomplishments, and supported them through the typical pains of adolescence and early adulthood with grace.
As a lifelong Lutheran, Gene’s faith touched all parts of his life. His service and commitment to the church was a source of joy and comfort. He also enjoyed travel, crosswords, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Symphony No. 7, his dog, Blynken, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Gene is survived by his wife, Hilarie; his daughter, Leslie M. Price (Patrick Winegar), Chicago, IL; his daughter Christine E. Peters (Patrick), Council Bluffs, IA; his sister, Paula F. Price (John Charles Smith), N. Augusta, SC; his grandchildren Miriam C. Price, and Eleanor R. and Andrew B. Peters; and brothers-in-law Fritz Gray (Kelly) and Geoffrey Gray (Linda), and eight nieces and nephews.
Gene, Geno, Dad, Poppa, we love you, and we will see you again.
