Michael “Mike” Morroney of Merion, PA, passed away suddenly Monday, February 7, 2022, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Roseanne (Martino) for 58 years. Mike was born in Overbrook, PA on April 23,1940 to the late Lawrence and Margaret Morroney. He resided in Merion for most of his life where he raised a beautiful family before retiring to the “Sunshine State” 8 years ago. Mike is also survived by his 4 children that he loved more than life Larry (Debbie), Michele (Greg), Margie (Chris), and Michael (Andrea). He cherished his 10 grandchildren and loved spending time with them; Michael, Larry, Nicholas, Allison, Anna, Emily, Amanda, Meghan, Joseph and Rosa. He is also survived by his sisters Trudy and Michele. Mike’s extended family and friends all played a special part in his life as well.
Mike attended St. Thomas More, Class of 1958 and is forever a “Golden Bear”. He was twice recognized by St. Thomas More as Athlete of the Year and The Athlete of the Decade. He was recently inducted into the Schools Hall of Fame. He received his B.S. from Villanova University in 1962. He attended Temple Law School while working with his father building the family's famous Larry’s Steaks. He was the founder and originator of the famous Philadelphia cheesesteak. Proud moment of his career was when he won the “First Annual Philadelphia Hoagie Contest" in 1973.
Mike’s passion was his family, faith and friends. He never lost his passion for golf whether on the course or watching on TV. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Lions Club serving as President for a year. Mike’s strongest passion was his faith and family. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Margaret’s Narberth, PA and Blessed Sacrament, Seminole, FL. He never left home without his Rosary.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, 9:30 AM visitation followed by mass at 10:30 AM at St. Margaret Church, 208 N. Narberth Avenue, Narberth, PA 19072. Int. Holy Cross Cemetery, 626 Baily Road, Yeadon, PA.
