Sheila Engelstein passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Cherished wife of the late Alec Engelstein, loving mother of Debbie (David) Shapiro and Bonnie Engelstein, and adored Bubs of her treasured grandchildren Jared, Rakelle, and Eden.
Sheila was born on March 6, 1938 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Benny and Bella Snaider. She met Alec, a holocaust survivor, and they married in 1958. The young family moved to south Florida in 1969 and settles in the Palm Beaches in 1971.
Sheila immediately got involved in the small Jewish community here and dedicated herself to helping it grow to meet the needs of this fast-growing area. She was instrumental in starting a new chapter of Hadassah, Bat Gurion, for the influx of younger Jewish women like herself, and became extremely involved in the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. Sheila supported the Federation with her time and dollars, reaching every agency in this community. Her proudest accomplishments were being Women’s Division President from 1983-85 and Federation Annual Campaign Chair from 1991-93, and dedicating the Independent Living apartments at Tradition at MorseLife. She was tremendously honoured to be selected by the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County to receive the first Kipnis-Wilson/Friendlander Award from her community.
Funeral services for Sheila will take place on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, 190 North County Road, Palm Beach, FL 33480. Burial will follow at Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33412.
