Robert Green

Born in Southampton, New York, in 1934 to Murray and Marion (née Schlesinger) Green, Bob, as he was affectionately known, earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University. A gifted athlete, he made history in 1956 as the first Blue Devil to win the ACC Championship in men's tennis.

After completing his residency, Bob served as an orthopedic surgeon in West Palm Beach for nearly five decades. His career was briefly interrupted by his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Known for his skill and compassion, Bob loved his work, and cared deeply for his patients and was admired by colleagues and community members alike.

In June 1964, he married Elizabeth Freund, with whom he shared a remarkable 60-year marriage. A devoted fan of the Duke Blue Devils and Miami Dolphins, Bob played competitive tennis well into his adulthood, enjoyed reading and gadgets of any kind, and later became an avid golfer. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his wonderful sense of humor, and his service to his community.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his sons Bobby (Rachel), David (Laura), and Geoffrey (Alison Stuebe); and his grandchildren Tali, Sophie, Noah, Jacob, Ellie, Sam, Maya, and Max.

A funeral service will be held at Temple Israel, 1901 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach on Sunday, December 22 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Israel of West Palm Beach or a charity of your choice.
